A Story Better Left Untold

Over the summer my neighborhood book club read Pillars of the Earth (a 1000 page, depressing novel set in Medieval England). We met last week at my home to discuss the book and as I was hosting I decided to serve snacks that hail from England. We were using the table for something else, so I put the yummies on a counter in the kitchen. After a while one of the girls asked me about the cheeses, so I started explaining that they all came from England and was pointing out which one was my favorite (Double Gloucester with Chives) when I noticed a million ants swarming all over the cheese plate! Mortified Much??! There were like 5 other women all standing around staring at the "peppered" cheese. With the speed of a puma I dumped the cheeses in the sink and drowned the ants, then threw it all away. The girls were nice, saying there were only a couple ants and that I should have just cut off the part of the cheese that they had crawled on - but please would you eat it?! I would NEVER - NEVER!

I don't know what is up with these ants. They are tiny little things that are barely noticeable; the smallest ant you've ever seen - which is odd for Texas because everything is so over sized here. At least I'm consoled with the knowledge that many people are battling these little creatures around here and at least they know these little guys are nearly impossible to get rid of, but still the Pest Man is practically camped out in our kitchen these days!

No pictures. please!

Hi Amy,
I remember those tiny little ants in my house there in Southlake also. They were a pain, but because of their tiny tiny size, they were kind of cute. I am with the girl who said, but around the ant infested part and eat the rest. Just like cutting mold off. Plus the fact that those were real England cheeses. I never would have thrown them all out! Some people in this world eat insects. So I am pretty sure it wouldn't have hurt anyone, other than mentally! :-) By the way, I love the header picture you have put on your blog.

While horrified at the state of your home, I too must admit my kitchen countertops have seen their share of these hideos, tiny little vermin-ants. I HATE THEM!!

P.S. I am telling everyone I know that Amy Chinn has "pest control" issues. Ha!

Melanie, I was hoping you were going to say that in the 8 years of knowing me that you've NEVER seen an ant in my house! LOL

Your new look on the blog is great-- totally captures your family. You all just look so happy & relaxed.

Those ants are a pain-- we get them in Keller too!
